WFMW - Summer Bible/Book Study

A wonderful friend of mine has taken some of us younger moms under her wing and filled a mentor type role in our lives. She has coordinated a summer study two years in a row and we're getting ready to start our third. We have 5-8 women in our group and throughout the summer we meet once a week in one of our homes. We arrange to have a teen watch all of our kids (she's brave!) while we meet and we each pay her $2 per child per week.
Just about all of us have kids under 5years old so the first year we went through Creative Correction by Lisa Whelchel. Great stuff on discipline and various motivational tools to teach your children godly behavior, etc. Last year we did Created To Be His HelpMeet by Debi Pearl. I think alot of us kept going back and forth between being really convicted and not quite agreeing with the author on some things. But it brought about some great discussions. This year we're going to be reading Boundaries by Cloud & Townsend. I'm looking forward to this book in particular because of how it applies to all of our relationships in life.
For two hours, one day a week we get adult conversation about the book and life, sharing time, prayer time and usually some yummy snacks that one of us brings. Its been such a great ministry to those of us involved. I can't tell you how much I have been looking forward to spending this time with these women. And that works for me!

Sounds like such fun!!! I wish I could get involved in something like that. I've actually being thinking about Lisa Welchel's book this week. Someone at another blog kind of implied to me that using physical punishment on kids was wrong. lol

Thanks for stopping by One Book Two Book. This is my last week working on that site. I'll be moving in a few weeks and I had to give us some responsibilities. I'll still be at my other sites though. I hope you'll drop by those too! :)

This sounds like a great idea...for moms, and for grandmoms as well. Some of us grandmothers are involved in child care and need adult voices, support and input, too. Although my grandchildren are older now (13 ad 17), we've had a multigenerational household since they were 1 and 5.

Also, thanks for visiting One Book Two Book, Wani.

I have had a group that meets at my house on Sunday nights for over 10 years. I don't know what some of us would do with out it. It definitely works for me too! My women’s Bible study group has done Created to Be His Help Meet also. We have had the same conflicting discussions, but over all I agree with what she says our role as wives is. Awesome post!

I love to read, but I rarely find a book that I truly want to own. I just got my own copy of Creative Correction and I'm so excited!
May you continued to be blessed by the women in your group!
